Astigmatism
is created when the cornea or lens is oval rather
than round. It causes light to focus in two places
at the same time. It may accompany nearsightedness
(myopia) or farsightedness
(hyperopia). A person with a high
degree of astigmatism will experience blurred
vision both at distance and near.
By
changing the shape of the cornea, LASIK
or PRK can bring the image into focus and create
clear vision.
