Vision Care Services
Routine eye exams are essential for maintaining clear vision. Visits every other year are typically sufficient for patients under the age of 60, but those in age rages 60+ should plan on visiting yearly. If you have vision problems that require more frequent visits, Dr. Wilmarth will work with you to build the best plan for your needs.
Regular visits allow Dr. Wilmarth to check for refractive errors such as astigmatism, hyperopia, and myopia in addition to various eye diseases and disorders. When detected early on, most problems can be treated to help prevent a loss of vision.
For refractive errors, Dr. Wilmarth offers a wide selection of contact lenses and eyeglasses. These work well for patients who struggle with presbyopia – an age-related hardening of the eye’s natural lens – in addition to those who are nearsighted, farsighted, or astigmatic.
During your visits, Dr. Wilmarth can discuss which solution will best meet your needs and fit you with the prescription eyewear most suitable for your lifestyle.
Laser Vision Correction
In addition to contact lenses and glasses, Dr. Wilmarth is pleased to offer:
- Traditional LASIK – performed with special surgical instruments, traditional LASIK is a time-tested, safe, and effective way to permanently correct vision
- Bladeless LASIK – while similar to traditional LASIK, bladeless LASIK is performed entirely with lasers, which may reduce some risks and help ensure the most pleasing results
- PRK – the original laser vision correction service, PRK utilizes the same technology as LASIK to reshape the cornea, but does not require flap creation to access the stroma layer. This may reduce risks for some patients and can make vision correction possible for people who are not good candidates for LASIK
If you have grown tired of prescription eyewear, these services may be ideal for your needs. Dr. Wilmarth has an excellent record of safety and success with LASIK and other refractive surgery procedures.
Cataract Surgery & Lens Replacement
Cataracts are an age-related disorder that can result in a complete loss of vision. The only way to treat cataracts is to remove them.
Dr. Wilmarth offers both traditional cataract surgery and laser cataract surgery to achieve this end. Which of these options is right for you will depend on various factors and can best be determined during your initial consultation.
Once a cataract is removed, the lens of the eye will need to be replaced with an artificial alternative. Dr. Wilmarth offers a range of intraocular lenses including Crystalens and ReSTOR that can not only replace the clouded lens, but produce optimal vision. These same lenses can be used for patients looking to correct refractive errors, even when no cataract is present. We can discuss the benefits and limitations of lens replacement during your next visit to help you better understand what this service offers.
